Why I decided to convert to social networking.

I am now in social networking (SN), full patch :) more or less. I am a professional artist and like so many of my kind I did not want to do FB, Twitter, Linkedin, etc. Here are the 3 things that can make so many artists reluctant to jump in.

IT'S TIME CONSUMING...

True, it is... and I'd rather be painting in my studio than spending hours learning all about Twitter. When you first learn how to wisely use SN, it's like moving to a new country: you have to learn the ways of the place; it takes time.

2. I PREFER TO BE IN A GALLERY AND INTERACT WITH REAL PEOPLE

Doing SN doesn't mean to stop showing at galleries but... Let's be honest, what happens too often in vernissages: friends and family come to see you, congratulate you, beautiful work! A little chatting, a glass of wine.. or two; then they tell you to keep creating and wave goodbye... Not paying my bills so far. As modern artists, it is essential that you be on social networks. You can reach millions of peoples, tell them about your work and ideas and hopefully some will go visit your gallery or better, some gallery in other places might want to give you a try.

3. I AM NOT GOOD WITH COMPUTERS

That point is a big stopper. However I had no idea there was a big community out there ready to help you. In fact, you are asked to help and share. Otherwise you look too egotistical to your follower.

I admit it: it took time to learn to consider SN as part of my job. I do it everyday for half a day, the other half is dedicate to painting and mothering. But I assure you that it will pay you back.
